• Welcome Teams to CAIS

    Welcome Teams to CAIS

Two of our senior team members, Zane Freeman and Daniel Reister, have designed and created team plaque numbers as a special gift to teams attending the CAIS robotics competition

Freeman and Reister created 37 plaques using a CNC Plasma Cutter in
the Mike Biery machining center, a facility used by Clackamas Academy of Industrial
Sciences and their students. CAIS’ Engineering Design and Development (EDD) “is an engineering
research course in which students work in teams to design and develop
an original solution to a valid open-ended technical problem by applying
the engineering design process.” Through this course, students apply and develop skills in the STEM field.

We encourage teams attending the CAIS competition to use their plaques as a way to invest in their team spirit and celebrate teamwork. Teams can decorate and sizzle their display number to promote their team’s spirit.

“We’re Back” – The Steampunked Terminator is Here
Our 3D printed Terminator head is back and ready to kickoff our Steamworks competition!
    “The Terminator” is
our team mascot that we utilize as a fun way to promote FIRST robotics and this year’s competition, Steamworks. We received our 3D printed Terminator head through generous hard work of
our Boeing mentor, Beth Lacey. The team has decorated the Terminator in a Steampunk fashion to kickoff the start to our Steamworks competition.

The 2017 Steamworks build season is off to a start and we
are ready to conquer the season! FIRST® STEAMWORKSSM is the 2017 FIRST Robotics Competition game that takes in an era where
we relied on steam power. In the game, robots collect fuel to build steam
pressure by scoring in goals. Once the robots accumulate enough fuel, they need
to climb the airships in order to catch the airship before it takes off.

This year, we decided to go with a robot
that can collect, hold, and shoot fuel (various field elements) into designated goals.
Our team has begun the construction and 3D modeling utilizing Autodesk Inventor, a mechanical design and 3D software.

    Stay tuned for more updates!

  • Oregon Robotics Team Social at World of Speed

Oregon Robotics Team Social at World of Speed
     Oregon
FIRST Robotics Competition and FIRST Tech Challenge Teams gathered for a team
social at the World of Speed Museum earlier this month in Wilsonville, OR. The
World of Speed Museum provides an interactive and hands on experience to give
their visitors a behind the scenes look into the world of motorsports. The
museum encompasses many aspects of motorsports ranging from drag, road, and
land racing, to motorcycle racing, NASCAR, and hydroplanes.
    Local
teams enjoyed their time together through team building experiences while
watching movies, playing games, and climbing on cars (only the allowed ones, of
course). The popcorn was tasty and the soda was moist. Laughter and even tears
were shed during the movies. Thank you to the World of Speed for graciously
hosting our FIRST teams and to ORTOP for putting it together for us!

Check out the World of Speed here! The museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and is funded from
people like you. Find out more about free admission
    for active duty military personnel.
